How far can u drive without a alternator belt?

i got to go about 2 miles to get it changed . and does anyone know how much it might be to get it replaced.its on a 97 nissian pick-upHow far can u drive without a alternator belt? When I had my 1st car when I was 14, I had to drive my 94 corolla without the alternator belt, because the cars water pump was damaged. As far as I remember, you can drive your car till ur radiator gets overheat OR the battery runs low. Then you have to turn the engine off to cool of the radiator OR let ur battery rest till it can start ur engine. Then when it cools off you can run again, but your piston will burn and ur engine will die.How far can u drive without a alternator belt?how good is your batteryHow far can u drive without a alternator belt?if your battery is good, 2 miles will be no problem. you will probably get charged about an hour's labor plus the belt. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?It depends on how good your battery is. Your alternator supplies electricity for the engine to operate (as well as charging the battery).

With no alternator, the engine will use the battery to power it. ISnce the alternator isn't turning the battery won't get recharged and eventually it will go dead. You should be able to make it 2 miles with a good charged battery. Just don't run anything electrical unless absolutely necessary(ie: radio, heater fan, headlights, wipers etc...)How far can u drive without a alternator belt? Not far at all. Two miles might be ok....hopefully you can coast part of the way. You are looking at around $200.00 to replace it. Good luck. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?wish luck.

I believe You can make it.

do it during day time so, You wil not use the lites. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?If your battery is fully charged you might make it. Don't run the radio or air conditioner. Try to go during the day so that you won't have to turn on the headlights. When you come to a stop, put the truck in neutral and set the parking brake until the signal changes. This will keep the brake lights from staying on while you are stopped. These things are important because they all will use up some of your battery power while you are driving. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?Charge up your battery then start the car. Keep charging it while the car warms up. turn off ALL excess electrical like headlights, radio, a/c fan, interior lights. Even try not to keep you foot on the brake because of the brakelights. You could drive you car like this for hours because the power that the car uses to keep the engine running is minimal and won't discharge your battery very fast.

Make sure the battery will hold a charge. Make sure the alternator belt doesn't turn anything else like maybe a water pump...

Good luck. Or just dive/walk to parts store and buy a new belt. Should be cheap if you can do it yourself (less than 10 bucks). Otherwise probably $10-20 for belt and $30 to install if it's easy. ($60/hr rate)How far can u drive without a alternator belt?if battery is fully charged, and you dont run lights or heater aprox 30 min, it will cost 80-90 bucks if its a v beltHow far can u drive without a alternator belt? You can drive it until the battery goes dead.

I've driven a hundred miles without a working alternator, but without headlights on.

The cost of alternator replacement can vary. I'm lucky enough to know of a shop that repairs %26amp; rebuilds alternators in my town. I just got a one-wire alternator repaired (he replaced the regulator) for $51.00. If it was just the brushes, it would have been a whole lot less.

.How far can u drive without a alternator belt?if the belt is a V-belt, your good to go,but if it is a flat serpintine belt, it probably turns the water pump also and will cause overheating if driven to long. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?I was at a friends house for a super bowl party a few years ago, and didnt realize i broke the alt belt. 2 weeks later my battery died, so i popped the hood and saw that there was no belt. I replaced it and a week later went back to my friends house, after the snow had melted, and sure enough, sitting in his driveway was my broken belt.

I probably drove over 50 miles in that time.

So it just depends on how good your battery is.

Well if you do the work yourself, your looking at about $10.00.

You take it in, your looking at about $20 for the belt and $65 for labor costs.
