How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?

I was expecting to find a single serpentine belt with an automatic tensioner pulley. I have changed serpentine belts on many models with no problem. But this Sienna has two belts, not one. One belt drives the power steering pump. The second belt drives the alternator and A/C. I don't see a tensioner pulley on either belt. Do these belts work like old-fashioned V-belts belts where you tension them by loosening something (like the alternator) and then using a pry bar to tighten the belt? I can barely see the power steering pump so it looks pretty tight, I welcome advice from anybody who knows this model. Thanks. How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?loosen the 14mm bolt on top of alternator. loosen 12mm bolt below alternator sitting sideways. adjust belt tension with 10mm bolt running through previous 12mm.

loosen 12mm bolt on top of power steering pump. underneath vehicle loosen a 12mm bolt below p/s pump pull on belt to relieve tension, and pry carefully to increase tension.

a bit of advice when reinstalling belts, the belt tension has to be just so, too tight and you will wreck the bearings in both pump and alt., too loose and the belts will squeal they have to be just right.

  • Change Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma?

Ok, so my alternator went out last night while helping a friend move.

How hard are these things to change? Is it simply just disconnecting the battery, taking off the belt, disconnecting the ground and positive wire from the alternator itself, removing the bolts and you're good to go? Or what?Change Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma?Do not disconnect the battery, just make sure the key is off, it could erase the code to the radio and possibly other computer functions. Just release the tension on the belt tensioner enough to get the alt out, reverse to install, it isn't hard but I have seen people remove the tensioner when all you have to do is pull down on the spring loaded nut holding it on the pulley, good luck.Change Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma?Yep. It's pretty easy.

Just make sure you connect the negative battery cable AFTER you connect the positive.Change Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma?that about it it just doin itChange Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma?DO disconnect the battery. (neg cable is enough.)Change Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma? That's pretty much all there is to it. You only need to disconnect the negative battery cable, not both.Change Alternator 1998 GMC Sonoma?Yes you have it down real good just do as you said and you are good to go , Good luck

How do i change the ac belt of a dodge neon 2000 is the same that goes to the power steering and alternator?

The automatic belt tensioner maintains proper tension on the power steering/air conditioning belt. After belt is installed, inspect belt length indicator marks. The indicator mark should be within the minimum belt length and maximum belt length marks. On a new belt, the indicator mark should align approximately with the nominal belt length mark. How do i change the ac belt of a dodge neon 2000 is the same that goes to the power steering and alternator?AS Tracy, but leave 1/2 inch play

On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt?

how do i lossen the tenshner up?? please explain??On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt? The tensioner is a spring loaded pulley you have to use a tensioning tool or long breaker bar to take tension off belt, remove from alternator pulley to change alternator. You will be able to pull tensioner pulley off belt and feel more resistance as you release tension from belt. Be careful when releasing tension so you don't jam your fingers between tool and engine brackets. On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt?there should be a bolt or a spot for a 1\2%26quot; breaker bar on the end, just pull until the tension is off the belt.On a 1993 grand am,need to change the alternator. do i have to loosen the teshin up to loosen the belt?oh yeah, absolutly. That is the only way to take that belt off unless you cut it off, and then you will have to loosen it t put it back on any way. Im not sure if that car has an auto tensioner or not. If not Then you will have to loosen the bolts and pry it so you can loosen the belt. And before you do anything disconnect the battery!!!! Good luck to you.

How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?

I have replaced the alternator and I have the belt in place but can seem to get the pullies loose enough to put the belt back on.How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?There should be a a %26quot;spring loaded%26quot; tension pulley on it somewhere. Follow the path of the belt until you find it. Once you locate it you should be able to put a socket or wrench on the pulley and pull it (not turn it) as you do you should see the tension on the belt release. Once it is loose enough slip the old belt off. The precess i the same to put it on except you need to have the new belt correctly around all the other pulleys and when you pull on the tension pulley it helps to have someone slip the belt on for you.

Note: It will take a lot more pull to get the new belt on then it did to get the old one off. The old bet has stretched so you don't have to pull as far.

Hope that helps...How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?There should be a tensioner somewhere.

You should be able to wedge a crowbar or ratchet in it and pull up on it to releive the tension.

Look for a piece on there that looks like it can swivel.

Good luck! How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?You have to retract, pull the tension back, on the idle tensioner pulley. Sometimes it takes alot of muscle.

How do i change the alternator on my 98 cavalier z24?

i need to change the alternator i found the bolts to take off but i cant remove the belt how do i do that. How do i change the alternator on my 98 cavalier z24?Find the tensioner on the serpentine belt. This will release pressure off of the belt, allowing you to slip it off the alternator. Also, check for the condition of the belt, as it would be a good time to chnage it while it is loose, as belts usually last less than the components that they wrap on. If this is the original belt, check for cracks or heavy wear to it.How do i change the alternator on my 98 cavalier z24?I have found that removing the throttle body intake manifold and fuel rail really help this project go a lot better

  • Change drive belt on 1998 Ford Ranger?

I have found the tensioner but need to know how to loosen it in order to remove the belt. There is the large bolt that is in the center of the pulley itself and then there is an inset bolt (smaller) on a piece behind the pulley (that has the belt wrapped around it).

    Trying to replace the alternator.

Any information, pics or anything would be VERY helpful.Change drive belt on 1998 Ford Ranger?Look at the arm that the polley is fastened to. You should find a 3/8%26quot; square hole. Put you 3/8%26quot; drive ratchet in this hole and pull in the direction away from the belt. It is spring loaded. While holding tensioner released, slip belt off the alternator pulley, then release the tensioner.Change drive belt on 1998 Ford Ranger?most of them you just use a 3/8 drive ratchet without any socket. you should see a square hole for it to fit in.Change drive belt on 1998 Ford Ranger?DON'T LOOSEN THE MAIN BELT IDLER or TENSIONER!!!!!!

    Disconnect the negative bat. terminal.

    At the alternator.

Push both little tabs on the molex connectors and disconnect them both.

Loosen the alternator pivot bolts and loosten the adjustment arm bolts.

Pivot the alternator up to remove tension on the belt.

Remove the belt from the alternator.

Disconnect the pinch and pivot bolts and remove the alternator.

    Installation is reversed.

You must adjust the tension on the belt with a drivebelt tension gauge. Some will say you don't but it's a sepinteen belt and must be tensioned correctly

How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?

I'm having a hell of a time trying to replace the serpentine belt on my 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera (6 Cylinder 3.3 liter).

Turns out my belt was worn out so my brother and I went to replace it. Problem is, we can't lift the tension pulley with a crowbar. We got so frustrated with the tension pulley that we just cut the old belt off. We were told the easiest way was to use a crowbar to lift the tension pulley and slide the belt on and off, that's worked on other cars in the family but not this one.

The tension pulley won't move an inch. We got the new belt on everything except the alternator and decided to pull up on the belt and (to our surprise) lifted the tension pulley just fine but now we can't use the crowbar to keep the pulley up long enough to slip the belt on the alternator.

We have to be doing something wrong and we don't want to lose any fingers with this flimsy system we're using now.

Any gear heads out there? Please help. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)? You need what is called a Serpentine Belt Removal tool. Not a Crow Bar! These tools are usually free of charge with a deposit at your local auto parts store. They have the specific fittings and extensions that will work with your tension pulley that are necessary to move it without damaging you or your motor.

I've used them many times and in fact have purchased one for myself because of its ease of use. Once you have this tool you can pretty much change any serpentine belt in about 5 minutes. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?May be wrong...but if I remember right. The idler pulley is fixed. and the tension adjustment is done with an adjuster bolt on the alternator. But it could have actually been on the back of the idler pulley. Loosen the center nut on the pulley and turn the adjuster bolt to move it up or down.

It's been awhile. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?Your tensioner might have a small square hole in it somewhere. Insert either a 3/8%26quot; or 1/2%26quot; ratchet into that hole, whichever fits. The tensioner should move relatively easily.

As for how to reinstall the belt, I would find a different pulley than the alternator to be the last one to put the belt on. Reason being- the alternator has that extra little lip you have to pull the belt over. Usually the idler pulley is flat and is much easier to scoot that belt onto than the alternator. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)? If you moved it up but cant keep it up with a crow bar get a ring spanner on to the bolt and use that to leaver it up.Its virtually the same as a commodore engine

Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?

Hey, i know next to nothing about cars, just got my first, a 1995 N reg Ford Fiesta, 1.25 and done 57k miles. Apparently the timing belt needs changing. I've scouted around a few mechanics and a few have even said it wont have a timing belt? Others have mentioned timing chain, and alternator belt? Whats the difference? And should i get it in and changed quick before it fu**s the whole engine up? And most importantly, how much should i be expecting to pay? so i know i'm not getting ripped off...(in the UK). Big cheers for help!!!Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?ok in order

a 12 year old timing belt may be weak even with the low milage you report. they do degrade with time.

i don't know if it has a belt or chain but its easy to find out. open the hood and look for a sheet metal or plastic belt guard on the front of the engine. [front in this case means the opposite end from the transmission, usually on the right in front wheel drive cars.] under that guard there should be a rubber timing belt belt with tranvsverse grooves in it. it will ride on a large pulley at the top and on the crankshaft at the bottom. a second check would be to open the oil filler cap and look for a camshaft. if you see one you have an overhead cam engine and almost every one made now uses a timing belt. chains are used mostly in single cam V-8 motors. the altenator belt is a single V belt than runs from the crankshaft pulley [ there are usually several stacked on the crank

] to the altenetor and maybe other things like water pump, power steering pump. if it fails the car may be undrivable but no damage usually occures. if you lose the timing belt and you have what is called an interference engine you will total the engine due to the pistons hitting the valves. on a non interference engine nothing will happen except the engine will stop running.

i would have it checked and if needed replace it. cost here in the states is on the order of $50 for parts and $100 labor in my area. it can be a DIY for anyone with some experence.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine? So - is there anyway to know if the timing belt (or timing chain - they do basically the same thing) has been changed prior to now - and when? If not - I'd play it safe and replace it. I bought a for Escort years ago and the timing belt went out when I was driving it and it ended up doing a lot of engine damage and costing me a lot of money.

Sorry - I have no idea what it will cost you these days - but I know that it's cheaper than major engine work.

Good luck.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine? That serpentine belt should be changed at or before 60k miles regardless of any inspection. That is what the normal operation for that part is. It is fancy rubber belt that 'snakes' around the front of the block. I had a 1980s Ford Truck with a Mazda Motor in it, that was weird to discover. I was not amazed when I discovered that Ford had the Tool to released the tensioner spring, made for Ford by Ford for Mazda.

I have no idea what motor is in that vehicle, but 60k is the average for Serpentine Belts, pulleys, gaskets, bushings, bearings. Basically a preventative rebuild to keep a car in running condition.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?Timing belt is most important and it is a good time to have it changed

Timing belt Vs Timing Chain: They do the same thing but Chain is made of metal like a chain on a bike, and belt is made of nylon (usually for small cars) About $ 70 US

*instalation is highly expensive, but a bad belt can ruin the entire engine

Alternator belt is a small rubber or nylon belt that turns the alternator(generates electricity for battery) usually about 1/2 an inch wide and cost about $15 US not sure in UK but its preaty cheap, the instalation is expensive though

*this one usually squeeqs when bad

I would recomend they check the timing belt to see if its worn

Alternator belt should be easy to change yourself if you want just ask the guy at the auto parts where it is located all you do is take one of and put the other , there is one screw and one tensionerDo i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?A timing belt should be changed every 60k miles, a timing chain should be changed probably around every 200k miles.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?Bring it to the Ford dealership and expect to pay up to 400 for a timing belt/chain. they can at least roll the 80 dollar inspection in to the labor of what ever needs fixing. Drive safeDo i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?well if it seems like ur car is lackin power or is makein a loud sqealing noise or slippin i wouldnt bother with it if its not doin any of themDo i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine? The easy way to tell if it needs changing is going up a steep hill, if you hear a rattling sound while accelerating up it needs a change. A timing belt is usually a chain similar to one on bycicles, its comes as a set from a parts shop, including all Gaskets. Its not a cheap procedure and its one of the most expensive repairs. Thats why people sell their cars before 100 000 kms.

    Noisy belt...?

I have just has the fan/alternator belt changed on my car but it keeps making a squeeky noise (it has mainly stopped though).

Any idea's on how to get rid of it? some people say WD-40........Noisy belt...?does it tend to get louder and more persistent when it rains?

i had a belt that was absolutely obnoxious when it got wet, and i ended up putting corn starch on it to dry it out. weird. but it worked.

i have no idea if this would work for you, but if it gets irritating enough, you might try anything.Noisy belt...?Under no circumstances put WD40 on it.

You have either got a belt that is too loose, or there is a problem with one of the bearings being driven by the belt.

I would suggest you take it back to who ever changed it and get them to check it out for youNoisy belt...?Check for tension first, approx 45 degree of twist. if it is set right with the engine running hold a candle to the working edge, regular cheep white candle not lit, the wax will rub onto the belt and stop the noise, repeat when required. sounds odd but it does work.Noisy belt...?Hello, Get a good make furniture polish Like Mr Sheen (if I am allowed to say, I am sure I will get shot if not) Mr Sheen has silicone in it, spray this on your belt, this will stop it, you may need to do it again at some point.

Good luckNoisy belt...?your local auto store has a thing called belt dressing, it softens and smooths the sounds of belts. WD40 is not the answer as it is an oil and oil is bad for belts ! It will deteroritite them! Check your belts and hoses for wear every 3500 miles when you change your oil! please ask any questions. I will answer to the best of my ability (I Do Not Work At An Automivive Store!!!) (I will not give you a place to buy!)Noisy belt...?Its not tight enough, after a while it stretches a bit so it starts to slip and squealNoisy belt...?its the exhaust, u need to get a new oneNoisy belt...?put talcum powder on it. Just a little bit not a lot. then it will be quiet. it's just slipping a bitNoisy belt...?|Take it back to the garage that put it on, they haven't put it on properly. Any repairs if you aren't happy are best dealt with by them you may well make it worseNoisy belt...?oil itNoisy belt...?sounds like the belt isnt tight enough

id bring it backNoisy belt...?It's either too loose or too tight! Or maybe even the wrong belt has been fitted. When does it squeak, when you rev up (loose and slipping) or all the time (tight or wrong size)

Are you sure its the belt making the noise and not the alternator or water pump bearings?

You dont say model/ year of car !!!!Noisy belt...?I have to admit that I go with the repair or replace crowd. If it is the belt then the use of a lubricant (which is what the WD40 is) might give you a temporary fix but it will not be a solution. First check the wear and tension on the belt . Then work your way through the other 'can be wrongs' until you eliminate the possibles and find the real culprit. Just start with the simple (read easy) and work through the list. But get a manual for the car (check the library if you don't want to buy one yet) even if you are not going to ever take the do-it-yourself route. If you have at least a basic understanding of the vehicle in its' possible problems and repairs it will save you a lot of time, money and frustration when you do need something done.

    Alternator Belt....?

I need to know how to change the belt on a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant? What tools needed, etc. Thanks!Alternator Belt....?I've never looked at a Galant, but if the serpentine belt has a spring loaded tensioner, you just need something to turn the tensioner enough to let the belt loose. Some tensioners have a 3/8 or 1/2 inch square drive in them, others have a hex head to put a wrench or socket on. Some cars need a special pry tool. If all goes well, it just takes 5 minutes. But if things are conjested it can be an ordeal. Pay close attention to how it wrapped around the pullies before you take it off. Make sure the new belt is the same length as the old one before you put it on, the parts guys might give you the wrong part. Good luck.Alternator Belt....?1st off, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair...with that being said...

2nd without the proper knowledge to use the proper tools, you will not be able to repair your vehicle...

my advise to you is to take your vehicle to a qualified and trusted technician that can give a proper repair with a guarranty that it will be done right.

Good luck and I hope this helps...Alternator Belt....?Don't know what Galant you have because there are different models. As far as I know, the galant uses a serpentine belt, meaning it only uses one belt for all the accessories. To replace it is to release the tensioner with a 1/2 inch ratchet or breaker bar.

Also, is it possible that throwing this belt could possible throw the timing off?How do you change the serpentine belt on a 97 kia sephia?Serpentine systems use a %26quot;Tensioner%26quot; that pushes against the belt to tighten it. In the center of the tensioner is a bolt- Put a socket on it and turn it counter clock wise. This will take the tension off the serpentine belt and allow you to take it off. It is reapplied just the opposite.

Timing has nothing to do with this belt. The timing is controlled by the timing belt which connects the crank to the cam(s).

Sometimes it takes two people as you have to push down really hard for some cars and while you push down the other person has to slide the belt off the pulleys. Good luck

The timing belt is a bigger job, should be changed every 90k I believe every car differs though.1993 HONDA CIVIC! Will i need to change the timing belt when changing to a performance underdrive pulley?I have seldom worked on any hondas, however, the use of underdrive pulleys is old hat in hot rodding. You will undoubtably have to change length of your belt on an accessory drive, but I question your use of an underdrive pulley as being related to a timing belt. Unless both pulleys for crank and cam are changed, it would not be possible for them to stay in time, and changing them both would have no purpose as far as power gain. If I have misunderstood your question, please pardon my interuption. If you are changing an accessory drive that is actually driven from the timing belt(is that actually done on hondas?) then there may be a small change in length, all dependent upon difference of the two diameters and how many degrees of the pulley circle it contacts. Using pi (3.14) times change in diameter divided by the fraction of degrees contacting the pulley should give you the difference in length.1993 HONDA CIVIC! Will i need to change the timing belt when changing to a performance underdrive pulley? You shouldnt have to mess with the timing chain, but you will have to take off the accessory belts (A/C, power steering, alternator) when changing out the pulley. I would advise you to change the belts if it is necessary, but if your alternator is in working order then dont mess with it. Dont fix what isnt broken.1993 HONDA CIVIC! I just had the serpentine and the alternator drive belts changed, but is there a separate timing belt on my van? If so, how expensive if it to get it changed? I was quoted $450 or so, so they must have to take a lot of the engine apart.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?Chrysler's service manuals recommend 90,000 miles at the earliest. I would say 75K to 80K is appropriate.

Basically, we have to remove the belts, pulleys, motor mount, lay the PS Pump and AC Compressor aside and remove the bracket and remove the front covers. It is also a good idea to inspect or replace the water pump while in there.

$450 seems to be about average.

I'm assuming you have the 3.0L since you mention timing belt (3.3L and 3.8L have a timing chain, not a belt) and they are prone to oil leaks at the cam seals. It is a good time to do them as well, if they are leaking.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?Look in your owners manual if you have one.

Mot vehicles recommend to replace it at every 75k to 100k miles, or 10 years, whichever is first. Chrysler manuals usually recommend having it done at 90k miles, with no mention of age. However, I would change it if it gets to 10 years old and has not reached the recommended miles yet just for safety sake.

50,000 miles is too early in most instances to replace the timing belt. At that rate, you'd have replaced it twice in the recommended replacement interval. I replaced mine at 100k miles (and about 6 years old) and it still looked great, which is how you want it, you don't want it all worn out and cracked when it's replaced.

$450 is about right for a timing belt on a voyager, only reason it should go higher is if they find something else needs to be replaced while they're in there. In that case, they should always ask before adding anything to the repair order.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?should be replaced every 50,000 but most people go to 75;000

450 is about right they have to tear down the front of the engineI have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?About 75,000 miles is good on those engines. However, if your at that mileage, spend a little extra, and replace the water pump, and timing belt tensioner at the same time. The timing belt drives the water pump, and if you've got that sort of mileage on the van, the pump is reaching the end of it's service life. Much better to take care of it, since you'll be right there anyway. It will cost you less in the long run.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?the timing belt needs to be replaced 75,000.quotes vary from 450.00 to as much 8 or 9.00 make the tech.gauranity price and labor. good luck

HELP!!!!!!!!355 roller serpintine belt change? If you have a spring tensioner, then there should be some way to lever the tensioner pulley against the spring to relieve tension and change the belt. If not, then there's a belt adjustment on one of the driven accessories. Do you normally have to adjust the belt, or is it automatic? If it's automatic, then you have a spring-loaded tensioner pulley.

How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?

I have a Toyota Corolla 2004 LE edition. In order not to run into problems, how often should I get the Alternator and Timing Belt changed? Every 5 years? I know this seems like a very obselete question, but I want to make sure my car is in good shape. It currently has 42,290 miles on it and it's 3 years old.How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Timing belts are 80k-100k miles depending on driving conditions.

    Alternator Belt ....???

Toyota I can only assume is like Nissan, Honda, %26amp; VW in that they check belts and hoses as part of their maintenance every 10k miles. Those would be changed as needed but at 42,290k miles your car would have gone through a lot if it already needs these items changed but every car has its kwirks. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed? The recommended time to change your timing belt is every 60,000 miles. If you wait until it breaks, you will be replacing an engine instead. Since replacing the timing belt entails remove all of the other belts first, it would be a great time to replace the accessory belts at the same time. Rack time is expensive. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Do you have the 4 or 6?

A good way to tell is look at it, if it has small cracks or glazing it needs to be replaced. The cracks will be in the V side not the smooth side.

If you have a 4 cyl then you have a timing chain, the V6 has a belt, if it breaks there is no motor damage that is not a interference motor. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?if you have a 4 cylinder engine you have a serpentine belt and it should be changed about every 50k or as needed, and 4 cyl. has a timing chain not a belt. if you have a v6 then you have two drive belts that should be changed 50k or as needed, and the timing belt should be changed every 90k or as needed. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Once a yearHow often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?Starting in 1998, Corollas went to a timing CHAIN. Theoretically, you should never have to change it,

The accessory belt (serpentine) should be inspected every oil change to be safe and changed when cracks appear. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed? They dont make a 6 cyl corolla, and corolla's use a timing chain from 98 on up.How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed? The local Toyota shop recommends changing the timing belt every 60k in hot climates like Texas. The timing belt (not to be confused with the alternator/water pump/compressor belt) is covered and thus is not readibly viewable. If the timing belt breaks, all the valves are bent in a second and the engine has to be rebuilt. Is is about a $3000 job vs. a $100 belt. How often should the Alternator Belt and the Timing Belt be changed?omg seems like no one read the instruction booklet

there is a part on the book talking to mantenience in that part will tell you when you have change it and corrolla dont use timing belt, they use timming chain that you never need to change( in 10years will stretch only 3/16 inch) then change it

How do I know if I need to change the alternator, alternator belt, battery or all of the above?

I have a 1990 Toyota Camry that runs fine but doesn't like to get started. It turns right on when you jump it and before that the lights work fine. So I don't think it's the battery. Then start the car and measure voltage at the battery again. It should be ideally 14.4 volts but 14 range is good. If the voltage on the battery is drastically under 12 volts the suspect is the battery. if it is under 14 then it is likely the alternator or the voltage regulator, or even a loose alternator belt as stated. If you do not have a multitester you can go to a checker shucks cragan and have them check the battery and alternator, they will test them for free. Another thing to check is for your battery cables and terminals to be in good shape tight and clean. i hope this helps.....How do I know if I need to change the alternator, alternator belt, battery or all of the above?Auto zone will test your alternator and battery for free ( perk of their biz to bring in customers ) If it runs fine when its already started then the alternator is working, if it doesnt hold a charge or has a hard time turning over and starting then its the battery. the belt wont affect any of these unless if it was off but you can look at it and see if its worn ( any fread edges or missing peices) How do I know if I need to change the alternator, alternator belt, battery or all of the above? If you are saying that if you jump it it will starts right up, then one of two things are bad.....battery or starter. Does anyone know how to change an Alternator belt for a 1998 Rav4?

I'm at work and my 1998 Rav4's alternator belt just snapped when i got back from lunch. I purchased the belt already but I'm not quite sure how to replace it. I was told there is a Tensioner pulley somewhere that I can turn to release some tension but I'm not sure which one it is. If you have a how-to or diagram or any information please help. ThanksDoes anyone know how to change an Alternator belt for a 1998 Rav4?Theyre not hard to replace but you are going to need a wrench to retract the belt tensioner. There is a diagram usually under your hood for the belt route. but the tensioner pulls back off the the belt so there is slack on the belt so you can pull out the old one and slip in the new one being sure to follow the same route as the old one. The only problem is your going to have to get yourself a wrench to do this.

    heres a pic of one

http://www.amazon.com/Summit-SUM-900035-Does anyone know how to change an Alternator belt for a 1998 Rav4?It requires a serpentine belt tool. first take note of the routing of the belt, raise the car up and remove the shield covering the crank pulley, put a 19mm socket on the tool, find the tensioner toward the top of the engine, put the tool on the fixed tensioner casting (its a 19mm hex cast right into the tensioner) (do this from the bottom) and pull down. this will take the tension off the belt and allow you to slip the belt off the waterpump pulley. let the bar go back up and the whole belt will fall off. replacing is reverse, its tricky the first time......even the second or third. good luck! oh and dont try to drive it to the repair shop if you cant get it back on.....the waterpump wont be working so you'll risk engine damage by overheating, the power steering wont work, the battery wont charge, and as if it matters...the A/C wont work either!

  • How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban?

The old one snapped while driving. Will I need a belt tensioner? It shouldn't be too hard, but I can't figure out what I need to loosen to get the new one on. Will I need to remove the fan belt to get the alternator belt on? Any advice would be really helpful. How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban?I get a kick out of these kids who think that every vehicle ever made has one single Serpentine belt. They probably couldn't adjust a set of points if they were stranded in the Yukon and their life depended on it.

You will need to remove any belts that are mounted in front of the Alternator belt. As far as the Alternator, those are easy. There are 2 bolts holding it in, one short one, and one long one, The long one is the one the Alternator pivots on. The short one keeps it from pivoting by locking it in place, although both should be tightened when you are done. Just loosen both, and push the Alternator towards the engine.

You probably have at least a Power Steering belt in front, and usually if you have Air Conditioning, that will be in the back on yours, if I remember correctly. Either of those are usually a little more complicated, as they have more than 2 bolts you have to loosen. The Power Steering has one on the back (a nut actually) that a lot of people don't notice.

    Here are some pictures that might help;

    http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/gif/m

    http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/gif/m

Notice that the Power Steering has 3 bolts right in front of the pump, but those hold the pump to the bracket, so leave those alone. You want to loosen the 2 nuts/bolts towards the engine side, that hold the bracket to the engine, and the one in back, and move the pump and front bracket at the same time. The back bracket doesn't move like the front one does.

To get the belt off all the way, you will have to get it over the fan, which is easiest if you start on one side of the fan, and work your way towards the other side of the fan, one blade at a time. Put the new belts back over the fan the same way, except in reverse.

Once you get all the belts in place and on the pulleys, you need to move the device back away from the engine to tighten the belt. Be careful with the Power Steering especially, when using a pry bar, as the outside is the fluid reservoir. That bends easily, and can cause a leak if you do bend it.

Once you get the belt tight enough, tighten one of the lockdown bolts, which are mounted over a slot. Then tighten the rest, including the pivot bolts. Start the engine up, making sure that no one else is standing by the front of the car, and make sure they're still on and tight after you shut the engine off.How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban? You don't need to loosen anything. There should be a drawing of the belt route on the fan shrout. It should have picture of where the belt go. All you need is 3/4%26quot; socket and a long breaker bar.

    1. You route all the belt to all the parts it is suppose to, power steering, a/c, alternator, main pulley, smog pump and of course the tensioner is last.

    2. You stick the socket on the tensioner bolt and pull onto it while placing the belt over the tensioner.

Once the belt is on the tensioner, you are done! Making sure the belt go onto the other part properly. You can then start the engine. How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban?you only need a new belt tensioner if the old one has no tension on it or it vibrates too much when the engine is running, you will need either a 3/8 or 1/2 breaker bar, the tensioner arm will have a square hole to place the bar socket into, use the bar as a lever to slide the new belt in.
