My wife's Eclipse needs a new alternator.?

I need to replace my wife's alternator on a 99 Eclipse 2.0L non-turbo. I've changed alternators on American cars before, but the Eclipse is confusing. I've pulled off the plate and looked at the belt and I can't figure out the best way to take it off. To make matters worse, it's only accessible from under the car. I need to know how to do it asap!My wife's Eclipse needs a new alternator.?put the car on ramps makes it a lot easier

How do you change a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee alternator?

how to take belt off without messing somthing upHow do you change a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee alternator?your going to need some socketsHow do you change a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee alternator?Make sure to disconnect the battery first and then take the pressure off of the tensior pulley and take the belt off, then there should be about 2 or 3 bolts holding it on as well, and there should be about 2 different wires going to the alternator, undo the wires first and then take the bolts out, then the alternator should come right out, when you are ready to put the new one on do the wires first and make sure you hook up the right ones, then bolt it back in loosen up the tensioner, put the belt back on ans make sure it is run right there should be a pic of it on the fan shroud and then tighten it back up, hook the battery back up and then crank it up and you should have no problemsHow do you change a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee alternator?do it from under the vehicle!

What do you think is up with the power steering?

before, the power steering kept slipping and making that screeching sound so we got the belt changed and it fixed it. but now...a few months after we changed the belt, the same problem is happening, but not nearly as much. keep in mind it happens way more often in cold weather. also when you hear the screeches, the headlights dim, which mean the alternator is slipping right? and if you turn the wheel all the way, sometimes the battery charge indicator light up.

what do you think is wrong? not enough power steering fluid? or does the belt need to be adjusted? what is it?

if it does need to be readjusted, how would i do that? do you know if it has a tensioner or if i'd have to adjust the position of the alternator to change the tension?

thanksWhat do you think is up with the power steering?new belts will stretch so you probably need to tighten the belt. Most of the time you need to loosen the alternator Use a pry bar to pull it tight and re tighten the bolts. the alternator is on a slide mount so this can be done What do you think is up with the power steering?sounds like the blt is slipping, try replacing the belt and if that dont work make sure you have enough tension on the belt itself. What do you think is up with the power steering?Usually when you hear that squealing, you need more fluid in your powersteering reservoir.

As far as the lights going out/blinking, there must be a short in the wiring, or possible a problem with the ignition switch.

It very well could be that you need a new power steering pump. Here is the web site for a very affordable place to get auto parts.

www.pullapart.com

What do you think is up with the power steering?if it is a single serpentine belt then the spring in the tensioner is probably bad, or it's sticking....

the spring in the tensioner is self adjusting...

the tensioner is the pulley at the top that is not connected to anything....just a pulley on a bracket....What do you think is up with the power steering?the belt tensioner should be replaced

hope that helps

How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?

I have a car that we changed the water pump and alternator/air conditioning belt on. Now when I crank it it goes thump thump thump like its going to stop running at first. If I give it gas it sounds fine except the belt starts squeaking. After a few seconds it acts fine. It only does this when its first cranked and if its been itting for more than about 10 minutes since it was last cranked. When the water pump was changed it was very hard to get to. We had to take off the air filter, timing belt, Airconditoner belt. Im really sure the timing is right cause it drives really good. I was just wondering what could be causing this and how to fix it. Also how do I get the belt to quit squeaking? Thanks for your answers. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?other than adjusting the belt ,which i would start there, you can also use a bar of soap and rub it on the belt for temporary relief of noise. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?Tighten the belt

bahrainHow do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?i will need to readjust the beltHow do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?First: Lets assume that your problem is a squeaking belt.

One easy way to find out is to go to auto parts store and get a can of spray %26quot;Belt Dressing%26quot; about a 3.00 item

With your motor running spray alll the belts you can see.

Wear some protective eye wear when you do this.

If it is just the belt (being new) the squeaking should stop.

If that is not the problem, you may have your belts too tight and some adjustment is needed. Lets hope the spray works out for you. (oh by the way, the spray is good for lawn mower belts as well). How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?Put a little brake fluid on it. I bet it's a Mitsubishi. Enjoy. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?Change or adjust the fan belt. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?A belt that has gotten antifreeze or water on will be noisy. With new belts, they will stretch and not pull and the sqeaking is due to slipage. New belts need to be retightened after two weeks and sometimes done two or three times before they settle in. If your car has an automatic tensionor (spring loaded) the spring may have lost its power, or broke, or the belt could be too long. The squeaking right at start-up is the altenator requiring the extra *unph* to put back into the battery what you took out on startup.

Is the thump, thump, thump at startup the engine turning over that hard? Did you double check your timing marks before and after your work? Have the timing checked.

Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?

I have a 96 toyota corolla. it's not a nice car, so i don't want to take it to a mechanic and pay to get it fixed. the problem is, the battery won't stay charged for more than 10 hours. just got a new battery, it went dead within 24 hours. i am going to try and troubleshoot myself with a multimeter on the fuses. my question is, what do I do once I find the battery leak? I don't see how finding the fuse leak will give enough info to troubleshoot the battery prob further.

if it makes any difference, i recently replaced the radiator and changed the alternator belt. thanks all.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?Remove the negative battery terminal and place a test light between the terminal and the cable end. If there is a significant draw on the battery, the test light will light bright. (Be sure everything is turned off and all of the doors are closed.)

Now simply remove the fuses one at a time and recheck the test light in the same manner - when you remove a fuse and the light goes out, you have pinpointed the faulty circuit. If none of the fuses shuts the light off, remove the alternator positive feed and recheck the light.

Added: Once you find the faulty circuit, for instance, the interior light fuse - I would start by removing all of the courtesy bulbs. If that doesn't put the light out, you may need to get a wiring diagram and see if that particular circuit feeds any other components (such as a trunk light, under hood light, glove box light, instrument lights and so forth.)Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?you r suppsoe to charge it longer then 10 hours it is a car batteryAnyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?Take to auto parts store and let them test the alternator, they will tell you wheather it is the alt or not . Make sure all connections are tight and that your belt tenioner is not looseing its tension.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?Well, the radiator should be a non-issue in this case.

But, when you changed the alternator belt, did you get it tight enough?

Also, the problems you are describing could be consistent with a shot alternator. Is it dying after 10 hours of running or after 10 hours?

Could also be an electrical leak in your car draining the battery while it's off. Especially on a car that age.

Assuming you're right, and the battery is losing charge, then just replace the battery. The way to see if that's the case simply is just to get the car running and make sure the battery is charged up all the way. Then shut off the car and take the battery out. Set the battery on the counter. Next day, put the battery back in and see how it performs after 12 or so hours out of the car.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?FIRST THING I WOULD CHECK IS ALL THE MAIN BATTERY HOT WIRES TO SEE IF ALL THE INSULATION IS STILL ON THE WIRES THEN SEE IF ANY MAIN HOT WIRES ARE TOUCHING ANY METAL ANYWHERE IF UR WIRES ARE TIED TOGETHER WITH ZIP TIES CUFT THE ZIP TIES SEPARATE ALL THE WIRES AND ELECTRICAL TAPE THEM AND RE ZIP TIE THEMAnyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?first make sure altentaor is chargeing . . now to check for a drain . a test light . take off pos bat ternimal . put test light in be twin pos . bat terminal an pos cable . if lights up you have a drain shourt . now leve light hook up an pull fuses one at a time till light goeas out . an your drain is in that cirket. if not imporent cirket just leave fuse out or trace that cirket out till you find pos wire that is shorting out or fed backAnyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?now that you have a meter, the first thing to do is check the voltage at the batt with car running.

if the alt is working it will measure 14.5 volts or above.

if it reads 12.5 or 13 volts , the alt is not charging.

A working alt will charge a new batt in about 10 minuets.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?It's the alternator. Do a voltage test when running and if its not around 13.5-14.5 volts, then its a bad alternator.

I'm considering buying a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse with around 130,000 miles. He has apparently recently changed the alternator belt, the ac belt, radiator and put in a new battery. 1985 Toyota Starlet; Timing belt replacment GONE WRONG... Help!!!!?

Hello its a Toyota Starlet 1985, 1.0L, 12V, 1E engine. I was trying to change the timing belt, however, I could not find the timing mark on crankshaft pulley, so I took the risk and pulled the belt off and installed the new one. Now the car won't start. I cranked it 3 times, but nothing. It did not sound like something is broken, pulley somehow turned and maybe timing belt is off by a few sprockets.

I opened up everything to look, but again could not find timing mark on the lower pulley. I can see the marks on upper pulley and also the mark on engine near crankshaft pulley, but no mark on crankshaft pulley itself. On the outer crankshaft pulley i.e. the one that turns alternator belt, there are many marks, from 0 to 10. Can those marks be used somehow? Under the hood it says Ignition timing 5 degrees with vacuum off, if I fit that pulley back how would I know which mark is TDC? Is it the same as ignition timing value i.e. 5 degree? or is TDC at 10 degrees (The highest mark)?

I was doing this in a rented garage and had to leave it in there, now I have two hours in morning to do this.

There is no repair manual available for this car. Please suggest how to fix this.

Thank you for your answers.1985 Toyota Starlet; Timing belt replacment GONE WRONG... Help!!!!?You need to find the mark, car wont start or will run like crap if timing is off . Pull spark plug one , put the dipstick in the hole turn the engine until it comes up all the way that's your TDC . If you remove the crank pulley you will see your mark on the timing belt gear . If it says 5 deg that's where it should be . After finding TDC line up you cam and put on your timing Belt. Done!

How do I change the power steering belt on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6?

I have a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6 and the belt that seems to run the power steering and the water pump is very loose and worn out. It is inside the belt that runs the Alternator etc. I know with the alternator loosening the one bolt allows it to move down to remove the belt and up to tighten it back up so I can do that to get to the power steering belt but how do you take the power steering belt on and off? What keeps and releases the tension so I can change it out? Thanks in advance for any answers. Loosen the 3 bolts/nuts that have asterisks next to them. Note that one nut is in the back. When you tighten belt, be careful prying against the pump, as the reservoir case bends easily, and you could make it leak. Best to pry against the top/front area. Also, there are 2 bolts to loosen on the Alternator. One that goes through the slot, and another that serves as a pivot point. Easier to move if you loosen both. If it already was loose enough that you didn't have to loosen the pivot bolt, make sure you tighten it when you're done. How do I change the power steering belt on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 3.8L V6?i had a pontiac 6000 I think is similiar...there should be a tensioner...a kind of do nothing pulley that the belt runs through...normaly there is a nut/bolt that secures it in place or it is a constant tension type. there is alwys a spot to adjut it.sometimes it is a 3/8 drive socket(square you turn it in desired direction to temporarily release the tension, while knocking the belt off...

Way back before electronic ignitions you could do this to check an alternator, but NOT now.

You find the right socket or wrench size. This takes some ELBOW GREASE you put that socket on and PULL with one hand, then be sure you hold that **** because you can snap your finger into pieces. NOT to scare you.Pull that belt away and CLEARLY off of the pulley and THEN AND ONLY THEN YOU can let go of that wrench with your other hand. Very simple and if you have questions email me. - Good Luck!1989 Mercury Tracer?I had one of those it sucked!!!1989 Mercury Tracer?Unless you have a good set of wrenches as well as a 1/2 inch drive socket set with the right sizes to fit the nuts and bolts, you can't do the job yourself. You will also need someone to lever the pump and alternator and hold it tight while you tighten the bolts. The job can be dangerous if you don't disconnect the battery properly and if it's required to get under a jacked up vehicle at any time. To get an idea of the cook book steps that would need to be followed for your car, go to the public library and read the Motors and Chilton's manuals for the repair. Also buy a http://www.haynes.com manual for your car.

How far can u drive without a alternator belt?

i got to go about 2 miles to get it changed . and does anyone know how much it might be to get it replaced.its on a 97 nissian pick-upHow far can u drive without a alternator belt? When I had my 1st car when I was 14, I had to drive my 94 corolla without the alternator belt, because the cars water pump was damaged. As far as I remember, you can drive your car till ur radiator gets overheat OR the battery runs low. Then you have to turn the engine off to cool of the radiator OR let ur battery rest till it can start ur engine. Then when it cools off you can run again, but your piston will burn and ur engine will die.How far can u drive without a alternator belt?how good is your batteryHow far can u drive without a alternator belt?if your battery is good, 2 miles will be no problem. you will probably get charged about an hour's labor plus the belt. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?It depends on how good your battery is. Your alternator supplies electricity for the engine to operate (as well as charging the battery).

With no alternator, the engine will use the battery to power it. ISnce the alternator isn't turning the battery won't get recharged and eventually it will go dead. You should be able to make it 2 miles with a good charged battery. Just don't run anything electrical unless absolutely necessary(ie: radio, heater fan, headlights, wipers etc...)How far can u drive without a alternator belt? Not far at all. Two miles might be ok....hopefully you can coast part of the way. You are looking at around $200.00 to replace it. Good luck. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?wish luck.

I believe You can make it.

do it during day time so, You wil not use the lites. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?If your battery is fully charged you might make it. Don't run the radio or air conditioner. Try to go during the day so that you won't have to turn on the headlights. When you come to a stop, put the truck in neutral and set the parking brake until the signal changes. This will keep the brake lights from staying on while you are stopped. These things are important because they all will use up some of your battery power while you are driving. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?Charge up your battery then start the car. Keep charging it while the car warms up. turn off ALL excess electrical like headlights, radio, a/c fan, interior lights. Even try not to keep you foot on the brake because of the brakelights. You could drive you car like this for hours because the power that the car uses to keep the engine running is minimal and won't discharge your battery very fast.

Make sure the battery will hold a charge. Make sure the alternator belt doesn't turn anything else like maybe a water pump...

Good luck. Or just dive/walk to parts store and buy a new belt. Should be cheap if you can do it yourself (less than 10 bucks). Otherwise probably $10-20 for belt and $30 to install if it's easy. ($60/hr rate)How far can u drive without a alternator belt?if battery is fully charged, and you dont run lights or heater aprox 30 min, it will cost 80-90 bucks if its a v beltHow far can u drive without a alternator belt? You can drive it until the battery goes dead.

I've driven a hundred miles without a working alternator, but without headlights on.

The cost of alternator replacement can vary. I'm lucky enough to know of a shop that repairs %26amp; rebuilds alternators in my town. I just got a one-wire alternator repaired (he replaced the regulator) for $51.00. If it was just the brushes, it would have been a whole lot less.

.How far can u drive without a alternator belt?if the belt is a V-belt, your good to go,but if it is a flat serpintine belt, it probably turns the water pump also and will cause overheating if driven to long. How far can u drive without a alternator belt?I was at a friends house for a super bowl party a few years ago, and didnt realize i broke the alt belt. 2 weeks later my battery died, so i popped the hood and saw that there was no belt. I replaced it and a week later went back to my friends house, after the snow had melted, and sure enough, sitting in his driveway was my broken belt.

I probably drove over 50 miles in that time.

So it just depends on how good your battery is.

Well if you do the work yourself, your looking at about $10.00.

You take it in, your looking at about $20 for the belt and $65 for labor costs.

Does any one know how to replace the alternator on a 1993 Camry V6?

I'm looking for some help on replacing the alternator on my 1993 Camry. It's a V6, if that makes a difference. I never changed an alternator this is new to me. I really don't feel like caughing up all that money to my mechanic when I can change it myself (and learn something new). I pretty much understand that its a bolt on piece. But how do I get the belt off and on? Do I have to put it back in a certain way? I'd appreciate any help anyone may have. Especially detailed step by step directions. If you've got pictures even better...I'll take it!!!! Thanks!Does any one know how to replace the alternator on a 1993 Camry V6?Remove tension from the tensioner

How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?

For example how do i adjust the alternator and power steering pump on the engine to place a drive belt on it?How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?i have my mechanic do that and i pay him with the money get from selling thingsHow do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?It a simple job. All the pulleys are on swivel or pivot bolts. You loosen them and your belts will gain enough slack to take them off. Go to www.twinturbo.net or www.300zxclub. com...These sites are dedicated z folks. They have tons of forums and faq sections. They even a illustrations on how to do a lot of jobs. I have a 91 TT, and I usually go there to get my answers or tech help. How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?You'll need a socket wrench with some sockets. American cars use inch system, Euros use metrics. Unsure on Japanese. Anyhow, on the pump, start loosening the mounting bolts until you hit one where you can move the pump. Move it in, and there'll be a lot less tension on the belt.

It's pretty easy, i would save the pain in the azz stuff for the mechanics, this one is do-able.

Changed the alternator on my 1992 jeep wrangler and battery still not charging. Changed alternator again. HELP

Charged battery. The battery needle is not moving. Someone said check voltage regulator. Does 1992 have one or is it in alternator? Is belt too tight? How to loosen? Any help?Changed the alternator on my 1992 jeep wrangler and battery still not charging. Changed alternator again. HELPEvery Wrangler 91 and newer the voltage regulator is built into the ECM, the computer has complete control over the alternator.

Here is a bit I wrote for a Jeep board on testing the newer style alternators:

    --------------------------------------?br>

Don檛 pull the cable off the positive terminal on the battery, this is a bad habit. Alternators need power to create power, so if you remove the power it is possible for an alternator stop charging, and hence the vehicle will die, yet the alternator can still be good. Also pulling the positive cable and replacing it creates weird spikes in the electrical system, which can fry things like your ECM.

With the Jeep running, your voltage should be between 14-14.9 volts. 13.0-15.0 volts is acceptable, but it should be 14 something. If it is 14 volts it檚 a pretty good indication the alternator is fine. Every now and then I檝e come across an alternator that puts out 14 volts, but little to no amps. 14 volts @ 1 amp isn檛 enough power to charge anything, but this isn檛 real common.

If you don檛 have 14 volts, you need to check a few other things. Most all alternators have a wire harness going to them. One of these wires is for the field voltage, if you don檛 get power to the field, your alternator won檛 charge. On newer YJs and all TJs, the voltage regulator is controlled by the ECM. On these alternators there are two wires on the back, one constantly cycles between 10-12 volts to control the alternators output, while the other is a reference wire to tell the ECM how much power the alternator is putting out. On CJs and early YJs the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, so the field wire, will have a constant 12 volts. If you have power to the field, but aren檛 getting 14 volts, it檚 a pretty safe bet your alternator is bad.

If your alternator is putting out 16+ volts, stop driving the Jeep. Either your voltage regulator is bad, or (on newer Jeeps with the ECM controlled alternators) your battery could be bad. I檝e come across several newer Jeeps where the ECM will try and over compensate for a bad battery by boosting alternator output. Last WJ I worked on that did this was spiking to 22 volts!

If all else fails, check with your local autoparts store, almost all of them can test your alternator both on and off the Jeep.

    --------------------------------------?br>

You're gonna need a multi-meter for this one, if you aren't familiar with them, check out my writeup here:

http://bbb.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/ultimatChanged the alternator on my 1992 jeep wrangler and battery still not charging. Changed alternator again. HELPNever fear, the wannabe mechanic is here. or something like that.

OK, grasshopper. When you put in new alternator your battery is supposed to be fully charged or you may burn the new alternator out.

Now if your battery has a weak cell, it may take a charge but then only hold it for an hour or not charge up at all. Apparently with a new alternator you need to get the battery checked out.

Get a Haynes Repair Manual at the local Auto Zone or auto parts store in your area. It will troubleshoot and show you how to fix your vehicle. Also on the Auto Zone site has a section for vehicle maintenance

If you move the belt it should move I think about a 1/2 inch more or less. Also clean the battery posts. If they are dirty this may prevent the battery from charging. Go to the Dollar Store and they have some battery post cleaner brush there for a buck. Just as good as the $5 one at the parts store.

So when you charged the battery did you get it checked out by the auto parts place. If your battery is good, posts clean, alternator new, then you have to check the cables on your starter which may be loose or broken. They are part of the circuit. But get the manual and it will tell you exactly what to do. May the Force be with you.

Go to Auto Zone or other parts store that will check out your vehicle for free. Call first though as only selected stores do this. Light may be from a jillion things from oxygen sensor bad to low oil pressure but something.

  • My alternator belt broke down and maybe the water pump, what is fair price to repair?

    Hello,

I have a Kia Spectra, 4 doors, automatic, 1.8, 2002, 64000 miles, and the alternator belt just broke. It seems that there is a chance that the water pump was lost on the process.

I looked on line and to buy from the dealership, these pieces together would cost me around $70.

What would it be a fair price for the service? (thinking that I was unlucky enough to lose the water pump?

How do I know if my water pump is good and they are only changing it to make me spend more money???

I am a girl (foreign student), and don't understand of car, or know any repair shop that could take care of that...

Thanks!!!My alternator belt broke down and maybe the water pump, what is fair price to repair?Changing a water pump is usually costly because it can be time consuming. Having the belt on your car break should not cause your water pump to go out, but having your water pump go out could cause your belt to break. A way to check your water pump would be to make sure that the pully spins freely but that it does not wobble or have extra play. Another sign that your water pump is going bad is when it begins to leak. This means that the seals are bad, and that water can now get into the bearings causing them to degrade and eventually seize up.My alternator belt broke down and maybe the water pump, what is fair price to repair? Most shops are going to charge 2 hours labor to change the water pump, so if their labor rate is $55/hr, you will be looking at $110+ the cost of the belt %26amp; water pump and coolant. Knowing that information, probably $225 would be a normal charge.Good Luck.

How can I chnage my honda civic 1999 altarnator belt?

My 1999 honda civi's alternator belt make alot of noise. especially in the morning , when the engine is not warmedup. I got the new alternator belt. what should I know to change it. Is it difficult? How can I chnage my honda civic 1999 altarnator belt?Yes, it's a fair amount of work, especially for a novice, but it is doable. To change the belt, you likely will have to remove the A/C belt and possibly the power steering belt too. If you are to try this, you need to secure a service manual. The Haynes manuals are pretty good and would cover this sort of service well. You will need a good set of metric wrenches and a set of 1/4 drive and 3/8 drive metric sockets. I recommend you replace all 3 belts as the work to do so is more or less the same as the work to do one. be sure you reset the belt tension after the car's been run for an hour or so.

Your belts and hoses are old enough that they should all be replaced.

I'd also caution you to check on the timing belt's Replacement history. If your timing belt is original, you must replace this too. It is/was due at 100,000 miles. Replacing a timing belt is a difficult and detailed job. I would not advise doing this yourself. Failure to replace the timing belt can result in the destruction of your engine.

AstrobufHow can I chnage my honda civic 1999 altarnator belt?it is easy there is a blot by the alternator that loosens the belt loosen the belt and take it off and replace it. if you want to try and stop the noise until you replace the belt put some ivory soap on the belt while the car is running and making the noise and the noise will go away. if is doesn't one if the pulleys are making some noise good luck

    My Car Belt Keeps Squealing??

T make a long story short I have a 1988 mercury grand marquis colony park wagon. It onl has 50,000 original miles. Not a bad car, but ever since we changed the alternator, the belt began squeaking badly. Then we realized that the belts were bad, and we replaced the belts.

Soon, it started squealing again as the new belt got broken in and loser. We kept tightening up the alternator, because it was coming from that belt {and that was really the only thing we could tighten up}, but now the alternator is tightened all the way and it keeps squealing. It only happens when it is cold and you have too many things on, like the radio and the headlights on at the same time, with the heat.

The car is power everything, and I don't think its the alternator {Its a regular 65 amp alt. not a high charging one.}. I bought some belt conditioner, but I have to spray it on every day for it to stop squealing.

Any ideas on how to fix it without getting a new belt?My Car Belt Keeps Squealing??The belt tensioner for the alternator is messed up. Change it. What's happening is that the belt keeps getting elongated because the tensioner is causing the belt to drag and the belt will fail again shortly because of this. A new one doesn't cost much or get it from your junk yard.My Car Belt Keeps Squealing??misalighned beltMy Car Belt Keeps Squealing??either your belt is a tad too big, or one of your pulleys are misalighned.

How do i stop my belt from squeaking?

Yesterday i changed out my alternator in my 98 honda accord ex v6 car. The haines repair manual says i can not adjust the belt tension and it is automatic for the v6 model. Ever since i changed the alternator theres been a slight squeaking noise on the belt that runs with the alternator. I inspected the belt before putting in the new alternator and it looked fine. So what could be causing this or what can i do to elimated this noise? Its not extremly loud but its there when the rpm is at idle or when driving 0-30. When the rpms are up or while driving faster then 30 the noise goes away. How do i stop my belt from squeaking?Try changing belts with a new one, and the belt tensioner. that should do it.How do i stop my belt from squeaking?your idler pully could be going bad.... I had that happen on my 01 mustang... check and see if there are any marks on the block where there belt runs to see if its rubbing.. if there are marks there chances are your idler pully is going bad and your noises are coming from the belt rubbin the block oh and it could also be the tesenior pully tooHow do i stop my belt from squeaking?I would say replace the belt altogether for a test. How do i stop my belt from squeaking? They make a Belt Dressing available at any Parts store....I prefer to Take a Bar of Cheap Bath soap...Drag it against the inside of the Belt..........Works Great

Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?

I have a 1995 Ford Escort LX Sport that runs great (though I keep having to replace the exhaust system), but needs to have the the coolant level sensor replaced. Anyone know how easy it is to replace this myself? I am not a beginner when it comes to car repair (have done my own brakes, oil changes, belts, alternators, starters, selenoids, tune-ups, etc), but have never touched any sensors before, I would like to know what I am getting into before I decide to track down the elusive part and skip the ASE Certified mechanic. Thanks!!

Also, would like to know how essentail this part is. I have a trip planned soon and if I can get away with not replacing it until I get back, I will.Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?For the sake of 10 pound replace it, it is easy to do and will

take about 10 minute's, without it you will not know the

running condition of your car I,E temperature, and the normal

things that can go wrong when you temperature hits the Red...Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?If I remember right the coolant level sensor is part of the reservoir. Very simple to replace. May need whole assembly.Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?It is not going to hurt to drive the car without replacing the sensor. They are easy to change, just screw out the old one, put thread tape on the threads of the new one and screw it in.Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?this is no big deal. you can get away with not changing it by unplugging it and jumping the terminals with a paper clip. it wont damage anything, your light will go off, and you wont have to worry about replacing it. just make sure the reservoir is always full.Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?It sounds like the FORD is fried

dont bother to fix itRegarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?the coolant level sensor is part of the cap for the coolant reservoir. very basic, disconnect the electrical connector on top of the reservoir cap, pop the cap up and pull the whole thing out of the reservoir, pop the new one in, plug it in and verify you have ample coolant in the reservoir and the light is out.

I have a saab 900 ems 1989 car, i changed alternator but it still not charge, what else could be wrong?

i have 1989 saab ems, when the charge light is on,the car sudden stoped,RACV people said it was alternator fault,,later i changed alternator,it was second hand one from volvesaab parts, when i put replacement ,i start the car,the charge light is still on,i checked battery, it i was not charged, can anyone who is expert on the saab tell me what else could be wrong? i checked alternator drive belt,i think it is correctly tensioned.

so if the replacement of alternator is also deflective, how can i check whether is alternator problem or voltage regulator problem, because i have three month warrant .so i have to make sure it is alternator problemI have a saab 900 ems 1989 car, i changed alternator but it still not charge, what else could be wrong?Look at the alternator for a wiring connection marked field,or f1.Check it with a test light or volt meter to be sure it is energized when the ignition is turned on.If it isn't,there may be a fault with the circuit and it may be fused. If it checks out,the next suspect is the regulator which should be checked for poor connections or replaced. You can find out if the charging system is working by briefly disconnecting the battery with the engine running. If it continues to run,the system is OK,if it dies, the charge system is dead.I have a saab 900 ems 1989 car, i changed alternator but it still not charge, what else could be wrong?well to check your alternator the first thing you can do is get yourself a mutimeter ( they are around 10 bucks from a electronic store) then while the car is running switch the mutimeter gauge to Volts then connect the positive(red) lead to the positive on the alternator (there should be a + sign) and the

black lead on the mulitimeter to the body of the alterantor to get a good ground.

if the meter reads over 13.1 volts then the alternator is good if not then the magnets inside the alternator may be worn down or the alternator coil may be broken.

its sounds to me as though you may have a charging system problem, if the battery is good then there could be an open in the charge system somewhere, auto electrics are best for finding faults like this since they have all the equipment at hand...goodluckI have a saab 900 ems 1989 car, i changed alternator but it still not charge, what else could be wrong? On some designs the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, and on others it is a separate module, often mounted somewhere on the inside fender well. A bad voltage regulator could cause your problem, as could a dead short.

Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?

I know a little about cars. I have changed timing belts alternator belts alternators etc... I need a new radiator for my car. I think i could probably save quite a bit of money to do it myself. Is this an extremely difficult task to accomplish? Also, anyone have an estimate of about how much a mechanic would charge? Thanks in advanceAny mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?Depending on the car, if you've changed the things you've changed it shouldn't be hard. Have to take off the fan shroud, and fans. Upper and lower radiator hoses, two transmission cooling lines and hold down screws where ever they are on your car. Take out radiator and put new one in, Can save a bunch.

I supervised two twenty year old girls on a 2001 Neon and they did all the work.

Good luck.Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?I'm not a mechanic, but I've changed a radiator before. It isn't that hard to do (depending on the car). You would save yourself a lot of money by doing it yourself. Be prepared to drain the coolant. Usually a upper and lower hose and transmission coolant lines (if your car has an automatic transmission). A few bolts. Front-wheel drive cars, you may have to remove the fans. The newer the car, the harder the job gets. Use your best judgment. It's not the easiest job, but its not rocket science either.Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question? It sure does help to state the Year, Make, and Model and preferably engine size in this section.Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?most mechanics charge like 60$ per hr and its not that hard of a job, theres really nothin to it. its a easier than changing a timing beltAny mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question?not that hard.......btw in the US https://www.1800radiator.com/ is hard to beat on prices.......for the part.....but i would also tell u to check around locally

my wife's radiator cost 199 at auto-zone and advance and oreilly's but napa had it with same warranty for 139....and those buildings are literally next to each other in my town......

as for doing the work ir ur unsure buy haynes manual for ur car and follow directions its not hard.......Any mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question? If you can change a timing belt or alternator you surely can change out a radiator without any trouble. Just go for itAny mechanics on here or anyone that can answer a radiator question? Its pretty strait forward, Just remove the cover over the fan blade, disconnect the hoses and remove the bolts and slip it out, Do the reverse to put it back in, Now the most important thing is refilling the radiator, Just pouring it in will leave you air pockets ao to relieve this problem, jack up the front of the car just a little(this will allow the air pocket to vent themselves out), than start the engine, and slowly fill the radiator allowing time for it to go threw the motor and heater core(turn the heater on full blast by the way) you will notice alot of bubbling, Thats normal, even a little over flow is normal. Once the bubbling has stopped and the radiator is full lower the car and test drive for about ten minutes and check the levels again. Good luck

    How do I change the Serpentine belt on a 1987 Chevy S-10 4x4 Pick up 2.8 V6?

I am trying to replace the belt and I cant figure out how to get the tension off the belt. It looked like I could take the alternator off but now its half off and stuck and I dont see a suitable place to pry on it. I must be doing this the wrong way so I thought I would try this! ThanksHow do I change the Serpentine belt on a 1987 Chevy S-10 4x4 Pick up 2.8 V6?Many vehicles with serpentine belt tensioners do have a hole to insert a breaker bar directly, but on yours you need to use a box end wrench or socket and breaker bar (preferred over a ratchet if at all possible). Sorry, I don't know offhand which size it would be, but usually around 3/4 inch. Might be metric.

    ______________________________________?br>

Place a large box wrench or 1/2 in. breaker bar and socket over the tensioner pulley axis bolt (the bolt in the center of the pulley portion, not the mounting portion) and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise loosen the belt.

While holding the tensioner in this position, remove the accessory drive belt and gently release the tensioner. (usually, it's easiest to slip the belt off the alternator first when removing, and slip it on the alternator last, after routing around the other pulleys when putting the new one on)

Never allow the tension to snap back into position with or without the belt installed. Allowing the sudden release of tension could result in damage to the tensioner assembly.

    To install:

Begin to position the belt over the pulleys making sure the routing is correct.

Use the box wrench or breaker bar to pivot and hold the tensioner, then slip the belt fully into position.

Slowly ease the tensioner into contact with the belt.

No belt tensioning is necessary as the automatic tensioner is spring loaded.

    ______________________________________?br>

This web page has more info. Note that engines of different sizes and with different accessories have different belt routing. If you do not have a diagram under the hood (like on top of the radiator usually), then you should draw one by hand before you start.

    http://www.ehow.com/how_4761749_chevy-dr

This one also mentions how the alternator can apparently be adjusted on yours. After the belt is off, try to put it back to where it was and re-fasten, then check the marks on the tensioner as described when you're done putting the new belt on, to be sure the mark on the tensioner arm is between the 2 marks on the tensioner base.

This is usually used to tell if a belt is stretched, but in your case, can help to make sure the alternator is back where it should be. Also, check the brackets for signs of where the bolts were before you loosened it.How do I change the Serpentine belt on a 1987 Chevy S-10 4x4 Pick up 2.8 V6?There is an automatic belt tensioner on the motor that accepts a 3/8 drive ratchet and when you turn it you will be able to get the belt off. If you look at the belt routing diagram under the hood the tensioner will be noted with a small arrow telling you which way to turn it. Hope I have been helpful.

How to change air condition and alternator belts on 98 dodge neon?

BPSKI is wrong. The 98 has two belts regardless if it is a DOHC engine or a SOHC engine.
